  • DHL delivers artworks by Johny Dar being auctioned for the support of refugees

Bonn, 11/02/2016, 10:30 AM CET
Deutsche Post DHL Group has supported the 'Jeans for Refugees' project initiated by the artist and designer Johny Dar. Kate Moss, Emma Watson, Ryan Gosling and Claudia Schiffer are four of the one-hundred celebrities worldwide that donated their Jeans to Johny Dar. He then gave each pair of jeans an artistic makeover and presented the results during New York Fashion Week in September. Following the donations' Fashion Week appearance, those interested in supporting the project were able to purchase a work of art by auction in October. Dar hopes to raise between EUR 1 and 20 million from the auction.

The idea behind 'Jeans for Refugees' is to support the International Rescue Committee by donating the money raised in the auction. The International Rescue Committee responds to global humanitarian crises by sending aid supplies and providing support on site to those impacted. In addition to supporting with medical care, they also restore infrastructure and ensure access to education.

"Supporting refugees is a matter close to our heart at Deutsche Post DHL Group. Since 2015 we have been actively fostering refugee integration efforts in Germany and we collaborate closely with relief organizations and non-governmental organizations. Additionally, more than 13,500 of our employees engage voluntarily and we have employed more than 100 refugees to date. The international reach and high profile of 'Jeans for Refugees' is a great opportunity for us to provide further support for refugee initiatives and to promote the important topic of refugee integration on a global scale," said Arjan Sissing, Senior Vice President, Global Brand Marketing, Deutsche Post DHL Group.

DHL has extensive experience in overseeing logistics activities for the fashion industry. For many years, DHL supports clients along the entire textiles and fashion supply chain and oversees the delivery of garments and other designs to Fashion Weeks worldwide.

DHL has managed the transport process for 'Jeans for Refugees' free of charge. Across at least six countries, the company has picked up the collection of jeans and delivered them to a number of promotional exhibitions before returning them safely to Johny Dar. Most recently, DHL has delivered the finished artworks to the Saatchi Gallery in London, where they were on display until the end of the auction.
